First Father's Day and Medical Update

Steve wanted to have a relaxing Father's Day, so we stayed around home and went to Oswego's Prairiefest. Lian did great even though it was really hot. There were carnival rides but I think the kids had to be at least 2 years old, Lian did enjoy his pony ride though :) There was a petting zoo and Lian is drawn to animals' ears (he likes to pull our cat and dogs ears) so he had fun trying to do that to the goats and sheep, lol. It was a perfect Daddy and Son day! (And I enjoyed it too! :)

My favorite photo of Steve and Lian

Lian had his 2nd visit to the ENT and Cleft team to address his snoring/noisy breathing. Since the beginning he has always snored at night, tosses and turns throughout the whole night to get comfortable, and has several moments when he will have ~5 second episodes of not breathing and then finally gasping for air. And his nose always sounds "stuffed up" even though he doesn't have a cold. The cleft team surgeon said it is common to see this in cleft kids. So the ENT looked up his nose and saw that it's really swollen, he said it could be due to allergies (environment and possibly from milk allergies). He prescribed a nasal spray and also said that he should do a sleep study. Depending on the results of the sleep study, Lian might need to have his tonsils/adenoids removed. I really hope he doesn't have to do this and hope that maybe this can wait to be done when he's older (when he gets his nose revised). He also had some earwax but the ENT decided to wait to see if he would need the surgery, then he would do it at that time otherwise at the next ENT appt. he would go ahead and remove the earwax. We then went to the Cleft team. His weight now is 21.5 lbs and height is 30.75 inches. He has grown 1 1/2 in. in height and 3 lbs in weight since the beginning of April :) He also saw the surgeon and speech pathologist. He is still right on target for development and speech, except that the speech pathologist recommended to work on making more different sounds (vowels/syllables) and to work on relating/saying Ma Ma and Da Da to us. She gave us handouts to read to work on. He will probably go back again at the end of August, we will get a written report of everything and when he should be seen next. I really love our Cleft team at Edwards, they are so well coordinated, efficient, and thorough. Lian did great today even though he missed his morning nap....he is a real trooper through everything! And I realized today is June 19, he has been home with us for 3 months now :) Doesn't seem like it though.....seems like he has always been with us.
